FALL of FREEDOM is calling for artists to host events nationwide on Friday-Saturday 21-22 November. In response, the Museum of Authenticity is hosting ART MATTERS: the Thrill of Mutiny, the Power of Community, a grassroots event designed to acknowledge the value of creative self-expression and to celebrate the role the arts play in social change.

2-3pm: panel discussion: Charting a new course through the arts
3:30-4:30pm: music: AUBREA ALFORD, Salida’s extraordinary genre-bending, classically trained, violinist and recording artist
5-6pm: reading: Salida writer-artist THORDIS NIELA SIMONSEN, stories from Dancing Girl and You May Plow Here that connect us to the land and to each other.

This summer, CMA Rock Sessions will light up The Velveteen’s Courtyard in downtown Salida—an awesome local venue with a real stage and the perfect vibe for kids to get comfortable, creative, and confident performing live. The session will culminate with a final showcase featuring students and teachers Zack Kochetta of Leadville Cherokee and Airing of Grievances, and Brandon Katz of The Chaffee Experiment.

The Salida High School Drama Team presents Hadestown: Teen Edition. This musical combines classic Greek literature with modern music.
Save the Date for the 2nd annual Salida Chalk Festival Saturday June 28! Artists transform downtown Salida into a giant outdoor gallery of colorful murals as artists create 6’ x 6’ temporary art works of chalk and pastel live during the festival. Apply as a Chalk artist! Selected artists receive stipend, lunch, artist T-shirt, 24 set of pastels. Presented by City of Salida, Arts & Culture Department Salida Creative District program and the Public Art Commission.
