Giant Puppet Making for ArtWalk Parade

SALIDA ARTWALK will be a spectacular showcase of the arts featuring gallery exhibitions, curated shows as well as community art making and festivities. In preparation for one of the events, come join us for Giant Puppet Making Workshops for ArtWalk Saturday evening’s festivities:
🎨Free puppet-making workshops for arts or community groups. Come and create giant, colorful and dramatic puppets, headpieces, masks, or props for the 1st Salida Art Walk Parade of the Arts on ArtWalk Saturday, October 12. Then join us in Riverside Park for the Art pARTy with performances, DJ & dancing. 🎶
Puppet Workshops are guided by local guest artists Krista Jarvis, Brandon & Tamar of Corvus: Clothing and Curiosities, Ms. Tina and others.
Free! Bring your imagination and cardboard, fabric scraps, ribbon, etc. to share but think light in weight like sheer. Wednesdays and Sundays 6-7:30pm downstairs at the Scout Hut Sept 22, 25, 29; Oct 2 and 6. See reel for inspiration. ⚡

Patsy O’Brien in Concert at A Church

Hailing originally from Cork in the south of Ireland, Patsy O’Brien has traveled the globe with guitar in hand ~ accompanying, creating and recording with some of the giants of Irish music. Veteran Irish music critic Paul Dromey declares Patsy “Ireland’s best-kept musical secret”, after attending his opening performance for Kinky Friedman some years back. He is a veteran of premier Irish festivals and hosts guitar workshops all over the country.

As well as supplying the driving guitar rhythms on Celtic/World Music diva Eileen Ivers’ last European tour, and frequently treading the boards and collaborating with many giants of the Celtic/World music scene (Paddy Keenan. Cathie Ryan among them), Patsy’s songwriting reflects a strong interest in roots Americana as well as Jazz influences. On top of his stellar musicianship and award winning songwriting, Patsy is funny and engaging in concert “with that twinkle in his eye that reaches back to the Emerald Isle.”

Follow your hearts to Salida and join us in Colorado’s largest National historic district and one of the state’s first Creative Districts for an art filled weekend at the 31st annual Salida ArtWalk October 10-13 featuring numerous activities for art enthusiasts and collectors! The arts and artists have long been an integral part of Salida, and the downtown district features a highly concentrated number of artist-owned and operated galleries featuring regional, national, and award-winning fine artists showcasing paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, fiber art, metal and glass work, mosaics, printmaking, salvaged art and more! Many artists can be found in various pop-up venues throughout downtown as well as literary artists, creative industries, live music, and a fine art museum. In addition to being a beautiful Fall weekend to visit, Salida ArtWalk presents gallery receptions on Friday night and curated exhibits, performances, and specialty menu items at the many restaurants, distilleries, and breweries throughout the weekend. Join us for the Art on the Rocks Sip & Paint Kick Off event presented by High Country Bank; the Invitational Ceramics Show at the Maverick Potter featuring internationally acclaimed ceramic artists; a demo of the 60’ long Salida Community Mosaic public art project; the exciting “Mini Masterpieces” exhibit and auction featuring over 70 miniature pieces by local artists presented by Salida Council for the Arts; as well as artist demos, pop-up venues, and hands on art activities for all ages. “Broken” is a study of contrasts, much like photography is a study in the contrast of light; love and loss, before and after, healed and broken. This collection of wet plate silver collodion tintypes accompanied by the subject’s corresponding story of heartache, betrayal and loss is a deep-dive into how the death of a relationship can feel like the death of the self. How heartbreak can resonate as a physical sensation within the body. How trust can be shattered leaving a soul vulnerable and raw.

Salida Chalk Festival

About the Salida Chalk Festival. Produced by the Salida Creative District and Salida Arts and Culture in partnership with the Salida Public Arts Commission, the inaugural Salida Chalk Festival will take place on Saturday, June 29 9am-6pm at E. Sackett & Riverside Park.  The Salida Chalk Festival will transform downtown Salida into a giant outdoor gallery of colorful murals as artists create 5’ x 5’ temporary art works of chalk and pastel. Like the historical tradition of Madonnari street artists of Italy, artists will create temporary works of chalk art in real time during the festival. Admission is Free! 

This year’s theme is SWEET HOME SALIDA. 💛 View colorful works of chalk that celebrate our unique Salida surroundings and community. Over 25 professional, emerging, and award- winning regional and local artists from across Colorado will gather in downtown Salida to create giant art works of chalk and pastel. The Selected Artists deadline is May 10. Enjoy A colorful outdoor gallery on the street!

Registration open to Public for Community Chalk section until full. Starting May 17, the public can also register to reserve a square and create a chalk mural using the theme SWEET HOME SALIDA.  Adult ($30) or youth ($15) categories. Register at www.SalidaSteamPlant.com. Limited space available. A free Kiddie Zone for 5 and under will also be featured.
Plus enjoy live music at Riverside Park by The Sad Hands at 2pm, Chris Nasca & John Stenger on piano at 4pm, Smoothies & Organic Eats by the RideOn mobile bike trailer, and a cash bar. Stay for an Awards Ceremony recognizing community participants such as Judges Choice and People’s Choice at 5:30pm. Admission to the Salida Chalk Fest is Free!
