A Dream Becomes Reality
I search for balance in my life, it brings peace and self-awareness. My work reflects the search for balance in the world I live in. Each piece of work is a journey, working through chaos and risk, hopefully finding balance in the end, this is reflected in most of my abstract/interpretive paintings. Each piece I create is an extension of mood; tension, quiet, chaos and internal thought, with patience, my curiosity peaks until the creative expression reveals itself onto the canvas. My creative expression is not restricted by any particular form, composition, texture or color. I experiment and play with patterns, textures, and color as the intense movement takes me on an adventure across the canvas. Each painting is an intimate story with bold or dark color combinations with the deep mysteries and challenges painting with color. Intuitive painting describes my journey best. Creative expression is essential in my daily life, it’s like the air I breathe, I can’t imagine a day without it. I rather not have social, political or cultural messages in my paintings to offer the viewer. I want to leave the viewer with their own internal dialogue of emotion connecting their personal experiences with the piece.
In my personal journey, I moved to New Mexico many years ago after receiving my BS from the College of New Jersey, and continued my graduate studies at the University of New Mexico and the University of Phoenix. As an independent young women with adventure in my soul, I believe my life journey started at that very moment when I saw the open skies and majestic mountains in New Mexico. I immediately felt the connection with the earth. After twenty five years of teaching and coaching, I retired to a new life. Finding myself, recreating myself, led to a battle with depression. Out of need, I find happiness. With no formal art training, I picked up a brush and started to experiment; not knowing what paints could do, where brushes could take me, I fell in love with my new path. Art meditation as I call it, has changed my life, moving me to a higher level of conscientiousness. My unique experiences; traveling, teaching, owning a business for 30 years, and finding my new home and owning Salida Dreamer Studio and Gallery in Salida, Colorado has led me down this venturesome path. Learning to listen to my inner voice and to respect the journey, I’ve learned to take risks, accept rejection, create and represent other master artists for others to enjoy. I hope my work and the work of the artists Salida Dreamer represents gives someone a moment of happiness and reflection, as it does for me.
