Painting began as a means of surrounding myself with oil paintings. Adult education classes and workshops were eye openers, but I was missing the fundamentals. True joy came after being afforded the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2012. Never had I worked so hard or enjoyed learning so much. It was so unlike earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing right out of high school. Drawing from life became a foundation and daily passion. Family, friends, household pets, and complete strangers were all in danger of becoming figure drawing subjects. Oil painting and relief printmaking became studio practices. Colorado’s wonderful landscape and my cats inspire me. Earning a BFA sparked a seemingly endless quest to see great art and motivation to create art daily. A sketchbook and painting gear travel along. My studio practice includes oil, gouache, relief printmaking, drawing, and teaching. My current workshops focus on the practice of daily painting with gouache. I’ve painted hundreds of very small, 2 x 2” paintings, as a means of practice. For me the small size is an attainable daily goal in my art journey.
